A big draw for this little property was the chance to have some at-least-semi-private outdoor space. We have both lived for most of our adult lives in apartments. The recently-vacated apartment had a large patio, but it was overlooked by apartments in our own building and in the next-door building. We made the best of it, but it was never a space we spent much time in.
That is going to change. Currently, the days are a bit too short and the temperatures a bit too chilly for outdoor evenings. But we have invested a lot in making our backyard a space we can really use.
Here is a before, from mid-July. In this picture, the slider has been installed for the den. Previously, that space was occupied by a depressing horizontal window.
By September, indoor work had revealed necessary outdoor work, and the place looked like this:
Pretty horrifying, right? A month later - the weekend our movers were taking over the bulk of our furniture - the back view had significantly improved.
At this point, Mr. P moved in. I, however, remained in the old apartment - camping out on the floor of the mostly-empty bedroom, with the stressed-out old cat, because the city was in the grip of a blistering heat wave, and big work was yet unfinished ... .
