Mr. P and I went to see a little art-house documentary today called "Gotta Dance." It's about the first senior dance team for the New Jersey Nets ... three years ago, the Nets entertainment management decided to try a senior hip-hop team as part of their half-time show. They auditioned a bunch of 60-and-over hopefuls and formed a team of twelve women and one man who performed at six home games during the season. The team is being renewed for a fourth year and auditions have drawn more people every year.
It's a really fun story and nicely made, with some news clips added to the filmmaker's documentary footage. This film is in limited release but is well worth searching out. It opened in New York, will be playing the week of August 23 at Laemmle theatres in Beverly Hills, Encino, and Irvine, and will roll out to art houses nationwide over the next few weeks. If you can find it, go see it! Pure entertainment.
